The Fish Wasn't Punishment—It Was Mercy

Sometimes we spend so much energy asking God to remove something that we never stop to ask why it's there in the first place.

None of us enjoy hard seasons. We pray for the storm to pass, the problem to disappear, or the answer to come quickly. That's natural. But what if some of the very things we're asking God to take away are the things He's using to shape us? What if the uncomfortable season isn't evidence that God has forgotten us, but proof that He's still working?

The book of Jonah is often remembered for one unforgettable detail: a man swallowed by a great fish. It's an incredible story, but it's easy to miss the deeper truth hiding beneath the surface. The fish wasn't the point, it wasn't even the biggest miracle. The bigger miracle was God's relentless mercy toward a man who had done everything he could to run away.

That's good news for us because we're not so different from Jonah. We all have moments when resist God's direction, question His timing, or struggle to understand what He's doing. Yet over and over again, God meets us with patience, grace, and a love that refuses to let us go. This week's devotional invites us into a different way of seeing our struggles. Instead of asking only, "How do I get out of this?" we'll explore questions like, "What is God doing in me?" and "How is His mercy showing up, even here?" Along the way, we'll discover that God's greatest acts of Kindness don't always look the way we expect—but they are always leading us closer to Him.
